The Aberafan works has run three shifts a day for sixty-one years. In April it will run two, and by the following spring it will run none with a human in them, and everybody in the valley has known this for four years without once saying it in a way that required an answer. Fola Adeniyi maintains the machines replacing her colleagues. She is good at it. She is also the union rep.
